Meet the Farmers
HALLE SALISBURY
I started farming part-time in college as a fun way to get my hands dirty outside of class and to find a deeper connection to the town I had just moved to. What began as a hobby turned into a lifelong passion when my eyes were opened to all the layered complexities of growing food: the ways in which the ecological, economic, social, and cultural elements of agriculture weave together and inform one another. I jumped straight into a career in small-scale farming after graduation and haven’t looked back. After working on farms in the southeast, I took the leap and joined the Organic Farm School’s class of 2020 for a more focused agricultural education. Just a few months later, it was time for another leap as Ryan and I started our own small farm to continue learning while growing good food for our community here on Whidbey Island. We’re so excited to be heading into our 3rd full season on the Island.
When I’m not farming, I’m working as part of the amazing team at Hedgebrook helping tend to the trails, grounds, and buildings. Any other time, you can find me running, playing on the beach with our dog, or trying to cram as many vegetables into my baked goods as possible (carrot/beet/parsnip muffins, anyone?)
RYAN ADKINS
I’m farmer Ryan. More info coming soon.
Meet our Staff
WALTER
Walter is our little sleepy bee! Walter is very excited about his budding career in farming. He’s already mastered such
advanced techniques as splashing in puddles
and stepping on all the beds. He reminds
us that farming isn’t perfect, but it sure is fun!
BILLIE
The newest Sleepy Bee, Bill keeps us on our toes and 100% the reason our Kale isn’t at market yet. She doesnt have much interest in farming, but she’s been working on her bird chasing skills, so we keep her around.
